Inclusive Leadership:
District D is perhaps the richest tapestry of individuals, neighborhoods, institutions, and places in Raleigh. We boast NC State University, Meredith College, and Saint Mary’s School. We have parks, We have lakes. We have a diversity of Houses of worship and communities of Faith. We are one of the broadest cross sections of ethnicity and background in the region.
This is a rich foundation on which to build a vibrant community. That being said, there are many parts of our district that merit consideration and attention. There are large areas of southwest Raleigh that were overlooked in the last round of growth and expansion in the City.
The citizens in these areas deserve to share in our success. For example, the South Saunders Street Corridor is a major thoroughfare and entry to the City. There are neighborhoods along its spine that merit nurturing and re-investment. There are opportunities for new housing, new business, and re-energizing of communities of faith and culture in our district.
I will work to build bridges between these diverse groups and parts of our district, and find ways that we may all benefit from the continued growth and prosperity that Raleigh enjoys.
I will advocate for Planning that looks to a future for this part of the City that is as bright and as forward thinking as has been offered to our emergent Downtown. Now is the time to look to this future, and to offer a positive voice for our district.
I will be mindful that there are many ways of looking at the issues facing our district, and will actively solicit a diversity of views to offer balanced representation.
